PADRES MAJOR A GRADE TO PLAY WESTS IN GAME 3
For the second week in a row, Minor Premiers Redcliffe Leagues Padres Baseball Club’s Major A Grade will face a midweek matchup to try and seal a place in the GBL A Grade Grand Final. After dropping last Tuesday night’s decider in the major semi with Windsor Royals by the score of 6-5, the Padres took on Wests in a best of 3 series in the elimination final.
Friday night’s game saw the home team come out on fire at Lawnton and with Rodney Wodson dominating on the hill won the game 9-0. Wodson gave up just 3 hits in his 8 innings of work while in a good team batting performance, Dan Nilsson and Steve Greer led with 2 hits apiece in a convincing win. The side played some great defence and looked forward to Sundays return matchup.
But before a large home crowd, Sunday’s return fixture at Talobilla was a complete reversal on the Friday night’s game. The West’s hitters got off to a hot start and after just 3 innings had raced out to a 9-1 lead. The Padres batters, led by Danny Dunsdon who hit 2 home runs in the match, mounted a comeback in the 6th innings to close the gap, before Wests went up another gear to take the fixture by 18-9. Game 3 in set for Tuesday night at 7:30 at Lawnton, the winner to play Windsor in the grand final, the loser to finish their year.
Major B Grade has ended their season when they lost their midweek fixture 8-3 to Surfers at Beenleigh. The side, who won the Commissioner’s Cup midway through the season, have now been eliminated. Minor Premiers SQBL A Grade, smashed though to the grand final demolishing Indians 18-11 at home. A dominant performance from Josh Barnes on the mound was backed by smart hitting that included a homerun from Dale Jones. They will play Pine Hills next Sunday at Mt. Gravatt. SQBL B Grade was eliminated when beaten by Southern Stars 14-8 at Talobilla. The Padres hitters were kept off balance and could not string their hits together. David West was the best for the beaten side.
In Junior competitions, the Under 16 Division1 went down 3-1 to Windsor in a high quality game. Sam Holland, Mike Young and Nathan Hass were the pick for the beaten side. The Little League Minor Grey team led by Sean Roederer lost their semi 8-6 to Rapids in a great game of ball after having finished in 3rd spot in the season proper.
